Voices Today is a blog by Voices for Georgia’s Children, a nonprofit children’s advocacy organization. Established in 2003, we advocate for the well-being of children and youth across the state and inspire Georgians – both legislators and everyday citizens – to act on their behalf. We provide the necessary research-based information, collective voice and proposed legislation to help guide these decision-makers in the right direction – that is, supporting policies that ensure Georgia’s children grow up safe, healthy, educated, connected to their family and community, and employable.
Voices for Georgia’s Children is an independent, nonpartisan organization and is a member of Voices for America’s Children. In addition, we lead several collaborative advocacy groups, including the Georgia Birth to Five Coalition, the Georgia Child Advocacy Network (GA-CAN!) and JUSTGeorgia. I am a stay home mom who worked with children in the Maryland and Georgia public schools for 20 years. I am wanting to know where can I volunteer in terms of assisting Voices for Children. I am a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Benedict College with degrees in education and special education. I see a need for more committments from parents; therefore, I have been enjoying 3 years off of work and working with my children, volunteering at their school, assisting the schools in Bibb County and doing community work. I live in Macon, GA

Thanks for reaching out. I’m Voices’ Advocacy Director. Why don’t you connect with me directly. I’d be happy to talk with you about child advocacy opportunities. We’re going to have an especially busy fall with Pre-K Week and our annual Big Voice for Children Awards dinner. You can email me at pmckinney@georgiavoices.org.
