Hopefully by now you’ve heard the good news that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act last week!

A special thanks to all who called their House members to urge support for this legislation which provides meals during the school day to many students in our state–over 1.29 million Georgia children just within the past year. The Act also improves the nutritional quality of school meals and includes other provisions to combat the growing crisis of childhood obesity that’s so prevalent in the South. As we now wait for President Obama to sign this Act into law, we also look to Congress and The White House Administration to make good on their commitment to ensure that cuts to benefits within the SNAP program are restored.

Voices would like to commend all legislators who voted in favor of this legislation. In particular, we would like to thank Senator Chambliss, whose leadership in crafting and sponsoring the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act helped make this success possible.
